Erlenmeyer Flask Functions

The Erlenmeyer flask has a broad flat base, a conical body, and a high cylindrical neck. It is commonly used for mixing, cooling, incubating, filtering, storing, and other solution-handling processes. The flask's shape serves a specific purpose. Because it is used for titration and mixing, the flask's sides are slanted and the neck is narrowed to reduce the risk of spilling. The Erlenmeyer flask's neck also houses a funnel for transferring liquids.

In laboratories, Erlenmeyer flasks are common. As previously stated, they are made of glass or plastic resin and come in a variety of sizes and capacities. A rubber stopper can be used to keep liquid contained in flasks that do not have a tightening lid. When conducting chemical analysis, the Erlenmeyer flask is also used as a container for small liquid samples. It can also be used to cultivate microbes with liquid cultures, as well as to mix and homogenize solutions.
