Pipette Tip Handling
Apr 08, 2023
Handling pipette tips is an important step in reducing laboratory errors. The following are some things to think about while performing laboratory work:
Maintain the proper temperature during storage and testing. Bring the tip and all of the tools to room temperature.
To avoid delivering the incorrect volume of liquid, rinse general-purpose pipette tips properly with the sample/liquid you are aspirating.
To avoid cross-contamination, do not use your hands when removing or inserting pipette tips into the pipette.
The pipetting technique should be universal. To aspirate the sample, press the plunger to the first stop and immerse it in the liquid. To dispense all of the liquid, press the plunger up to the second stop (double press) while dispensing.
It is also critical to immerse the pipette tip to the correct depth.
Hold the pipette vertically while aspirating and pulling the sample from the container.
Check the pipette tips before and after dispensing to ensure that the liquid is completely dispensed.
Consistent force should be applied when pressing the plunger.
