Sterile flocked Oropharyngeal Swab is made by innovative jet-implanted nylon fibers technology maximizes sampling swab sampling efficiency, with nylon fibers adhering vertically and uniformly to the surface of the swab head, greatly increasing the efficiency of collection and release of cellular and viral samples, improving analytical sensitivity, leaving no specimen residue and speeding up the specimen handling process. The upright nylon fibers act like a soft brush to allow for more specimen collection, the capillary action between the nylon fibers enhances the load of aqueous samples and the samples are concentrated on the surface of the swab making it easier to elute.

Traditionally, compact fibers (cotton, polyester, and rayon) are used to make swab tips. The fibers are compressed and shaped into the desired tip shape.

However, it's estimated that only 10-15% of the samples collected on traditional spun fiber swabs are recovered from cultures. The nature of spun fiber inevitably leads to entrapment of the specimen. When it comes to particularly small samples, this could result in losing all usable specimens.

The ideal sampling swab must be able to absorb and release the sample, whilst maintaining viability.
