Pipette Maintenance

Mar 01, 2022

The pipette should be regularly maintained according to the frequency of use, but at least every 3 months, check the pipette for dust and dirt, pay special attention to its mouth cone. Long-term maintenance requires cleaning of the inside of the pipette and must be dismantled by trained and qualified personnel.

1. Cleaning of the pipette

The internal cleaning needs to disassemble the lower part of the pipette first. The disassembled parts should be scrubbed with soapy water, detergent or 60% isopropyl alcohol, then rinsed with double distilled water, dried, and then coated with a cotton swab on the surface of the piston. Apply a thin layer of lubricating silicone; seals generally do not need cleaning.

2. Sterilization of pipettes

It can be sterilized by conventional high temperature and high pressure sterilization or ultraviolet irradiation sterilization.

3. Removal of Contaminating Nucleic Acids on the Pipette

Soak the disassembled inner and outer sleeves from the lower part of the pipette in the cleaning solution at 95°C for 30 minutes, then rinse the sleeves with double distilled water, dry at 60°C or completely dry, and finally put them in the piston. Apply lubricant (silicone) to the surface and assemble the parts.
